Our story
Born from a trip to Tokyo
The idea for Purrbank was born from travel. While visiting Tokyo, our founders were captivated by animal café culture — the care, the atmosphere, and the community built around it. A cat café visit in LA had planted the seed, but Japan made clear that what exists in the States is barely scratching the surface of what's possible.
Our vision is bigger than a café. Purrbank is designed to be three things at once: a retail destination, a not-for-profit animal rescue, and a community cultural center — as much a gathering place as it is a rescue, a space people genuinely want to return to.
Leadership
Co-owned, hands-on
Purrbank is co-owned by Kelley and Joey, who manage day-to-day operations together in the early phase. We're deeply connected to the Burbank community through school involvement, youth sports, and Girl Scouts — a grassroots pipeline that keeps us close to the families and kids we serve.
The rescue
A partnership, not a startup nonprofit
Rather than building a new nonprofit from scratch, Purrbank partners with an established rescue organization for adoption paperwork, cat care, and access to a network of dedicated volunteers. Every cat you meet in our space is looking for a home.
